Hyundai has revealed details about the restyled 2018-2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan. At the same time, the new model, with a difference of just one day, was first shown in the United States, and then presented in specifications for the domestic South Korean market. The two versions differ from each other only in the engine range, otherwise they are completely identical. Presentation new Elantra in the USA took place on August 22 as part of a special event organized for representatives of the local press.
The updated sedan acquired a completely new appearance, was seriously transformed inside, and received a set of Hyundai SmartSense active safety systems with a set of the most modern assistants. Sales of the 2018-2019 Hyundai Elantra in the American market will start around September-October of this year, the expected price range excluding taxes is 14.5-20 thousand dollars.
The pre-reform version debuted at the end of 2015 and today is best sold in the United States, where just under two hundred thousand copies were found by buyers last year alone. In general, the Korean sedan has historically enjoyed the highest demand overseas, measured in hundreds of thousands of cars sold annually. In Europe, the situation is completely opposite - car sales here are very difficult, so in 2017, only 2.5 thousand car enthusiasts chose the Elantra.
If we talk about Russia, then our compatriots are sympathetic to the Hyundai sedan. This is confirmed by almost 6 thousand four-door cars sold last year. Only the traditionally popular models (68.6 thousand units), (55.3 thousand), (12 thousand) and (8.6 thousand) were doing better. It is all the more interesting to see an updated car with us, the arrival of which should be expected in 2019. Of course, it’s too early to talk about configurations and prices, but taking into account the cost of the current version (starts at 984 thousand rubles) and the list of improvements made, it is quite reasonable to assume that the new base price tag will exceed a million rubles.
Revolution in design
To say that Hyundai designers have revised the appearance of the Elantra is an understatement. The new model is strikingly different from its predecessor, and the main leitmotif of the restyling was the transition from smooth lines to sharper edges and “sharp” shapes. The nose of the car received triangular blocks of the main headlights and foglights, as well as a modified radiator grille and a bumper of a different configuration. The head optics of the new product are halogen by default, but LEDs will be available in top trim levels. The edges of the headlights are decorated with stylish lightning-like strokes of running lights.

If the body design and content of Hyundai Elantra trim levels in different markets are the same, then differences are expected in the range of power units. In the USA, the range of engines will remain the same: 2.0-liter naturally aspirated “four” 149 hp. in company with turbocharged engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters (power 130 and 204 hp, respectively). Gearboxes are 6-speed manual and automatic, as well as a 7-speed preselective robot with two clutches.

In Russia, the restyled Elantra will be offered with old gasoline engines - 1.6 MPI (128 hp) and 2.0 MPI (149 hp). Both can be combined with 6-speed automatic transmissions and manual transmissions.

The new budget sedan is designed specifically for the Chinese market.

In 2019, Hyundai will offer a restyled Sonata sedan for the North American market. New design will allow you to create a dynamic image of the car. This result was achieved with the help of an enlarged radiator grille and a new design of head optics.
The Sonata will retain a comfortable interior that is more in line with business class models. The model will receive additional functions, a complete package of driver assistance, as well as active and passive safety systems.
The power units will remain from the previous version with 150, 168 and 195 hp.

The interior features a redesigned center console with convenient placement of controls. In addition, the digital instrument panel will be reduced in size. In order to increase the level of comfort for rear passengers, air conditioning deflectors are provided, and due to the increased size of the small car, the space inside the car will increase.
Solaris will be equipped with two engines:
- 107 hp / 1.4 l;
- 124 hp / 1.6 l.
The company has not yet announced the release date on the domestic market, but it is known that the price level of the new product will remain the same.
Veloster
Hyundai will present the second generation of the asymmetrical compact hatchback in 2019. The small car will retain its main feature - an asymmetrical 3-door design (one door is located on the driver's side and two on the opposite). The completed updates to the external image will add dynamism and swiftness to the car. The manufacturer does not plan any significant new features in the interior. The main changes include a new device for the multifunction steering wheel and center console, as well as the use of additional materials for sound insulation.
Petrol models with a volume of 1.6 liters and the following power are intended as power units:
For the transmission, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will be used, and with turbocharged versions of the engines, a 7-speed robot will be used.

Santa Fe

- The head optics have an oblique shape; the use of diode technology in its manufacture is immediately noticeable.
- The bumper has two air intakes on the sides, which in practice became only an unusual niche for fog lights. In a similar way, the designers gave the silhouette of this car a dynamic look.
- The wheel arches are quite large, which, with a low seating position, makes the car look more sporty.
- The back turned out to be no less attractive than the front. The main part of the design is large slanted lights, which are a continuation of the dividing rib of the luggage compartment lid.
Note that the automaker refused to install massive plastic protection around the perimeter of the body, which stands out against its background. The style of lightness and dynamism was similarly maintained.

The car is closer to the budget than to the middle class. However, in an expensive configuration, its interior looks quite attractive:
- Multifunction steering wheel with three spokes.

Price 957,000 rubles with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine with 128 hp. and manual transmission. The installed motor does not have high power, but at the same time it has very high efficiency.
Already the basic equipment has various popular options: ESP, ABS, HAS, front passenger airbags, seat belts are height adjustable. The rear row of seats is equipped with a child seat anchorage system and a child lock function.

The cabin has USB and AUX connectors for connecting various mobile devices, as well as a 12V socket. The driver can adjust his seat height; to improve the quality of air supplied to the cabin, a cleaning filter is installed. There are various drawers and pockets throughout the cabin.
2.Base
On this option The complete set is equipped with all the de DVV, which can come with manual transmission and automatic transmission at a price of 1,020,000 and 1,065,000 rubles, respectively. For a relatively insignificant surcharge, the list of equipment has been significantly expanded. An example is carrying out audio preparation, which involves installing 4 speakers throughout the cabin and the ability to connect mobile device with the standard system via Bluetooth wireless communication.
To control the central locking, the keys were made in the form of a small remote control, and the degree of sound insulation of the engine compartment was increased, which made the car quieter. The driver and front passenger can count on more comfortable travel conditions thanks to the installed heated seat system.
3. Active
You can purchase everything in the same combination at a price of 1,100,000 and 1,145,000 rubles, respectively. For an additional fee, the number of installed speakers was increased to 6, instead of steel wheels, light alloy wheels with R16 were installed.
They found space in the car for a full-size spare wheel, increased the number of airbags and installed additional curtains. In order to simplify parking, appropriate sensors were installed at the rear; dual-zone climate control is now responsible for the parameters of the supplied air. The seat heating function was also installed for rear passengers. The windows can close automatically when precipitation occurs thanks to the installed rain sensor. High-quality leather was used to trim the steering wheel and gear knob.
4. Comfort
In the top version, the car is available with a new 2.0-liter 149 hp engine, which is paired with a manual transmission and automatic transmission at a price of 1,190,000 rubles and 1,235,000 rubles, respectively. In addition to the Active, modern diode head optics were installed, the radiator grille has chrome lining, and the exterior mirrors can be automatically folded when the vehicle is stopped and the engine is turned off.

The American market was the first to see the new Hyundai Elantra 2019 sedan, but the car will not differ from the European version. As can be seen from the photo above, the new Hyundai Elantra 2019 sedan received so-called triangular shapes, which were not present in the pre-restyling model.
Small changes were made to the entire front part, the same triangular shapes and significant innovations were made to the rear part of the sedan. Regarding the interior of the Hyundai Elantra 2019-2020, here the designers chose to introduce a minimum of novelty, changing individual parts of the front panel and the steering wheel. Following the design of the sedan, the safety and comfort systems were updated, several new active systems were added, and the list was also expanded in the basic configuration.

Exterior of the new Hyundai Elantra 2019-2020
As already said, the external changes are just a restyling of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra, although in fact it seems that it is a new generation of the sedan. The changes are most noticeable on the front of the sedan; in particular, the designers installed new triangular optics, a new radiator grille and lines along the length of the hood. The front optics have indeed become triangular; the designers of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra narrowed it closer to the radiator grille and added sharp lines to the side wing. Part of the optics near the wing was highlighted with a bright yellow turn signal, and along the contour they were decorated with LED daytime running lights.
Optics base The 2019 Hyundai Elantra varies depending on the sedan trim level. Most options have halogen lamps, one per sector. For the Limited and Sport trim levels, engineers installed LED elements. As standard, any of the optics options is equipped with an adaptive function, with the ability to illuminate turns.
Radiator grille The updated 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan has hardly changed, but this is only at first glance. In fact, the changes are hardly noticeable; the grille has become smaller in size and acquired strict lines. The insert uses horizontal and vertical stripes painted chrome or black. The main sensors of active security systems were also located here, disguised as a black plastic insert.
As already mentioned, the front bumper of the new 2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan also underwent changes. The designers gave it an aggressive style, adding the same triangular lines and notches; the latter installed LED foglights and small air intakes for better aerodynamics. The hood of the new 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan has received more anger; the designers have created two straight lines from the radiator grille to the windshield, and two more lines stretch to the A-pillars.
Relatively windshield, then there are minimal changes here, or rather, in fact, there are none. All configurations of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan, except for the base one, will have a partial or fully heated windshield in the windshield wiper area. Well, although the front part of the new Hyundai Elantra 2019 was restyled, the changes only benefited the sedan.
Side part The 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan has in fact remained almost unchanged. The body part retained the same lines and shape of the parts. The door handles are painted to match the body color, although chrome trims can be ordered as an option. The side rear view mirrors have changed their style quite a bit near the LED turn signal indicators, but otherwise everything is the same. In addition to turn signal indicators, the standard set includes power adjustment and automatic folding. Top versions of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra will have heated side mirrors and memory for several modes.
On the side, the most changes were made to the wheels of the Hyundai Elantra 2019. For the basic configuration, new 15" steel wheels made in Eco style will be installed. The remaining trim levels will receive 16" or 17" alloy wheels.
Nothing is known yet about the exterior colors of the 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra. The manufacturer only clarified that the sedan will have the same shades:

- silver;
- beige;
- grey;
- electric color;
- Navy blue;
- red;
- golden;
- burgundy;
- black;
- special color (combination of shade and decorative elements).
Following the redesign of the front part of the Hyudai Elantra 2019-2020, noticeable changes came to the rear part of the sedan. The rear feet have the same triangular shape, while the part on the trunk lid has sharper edges. The second, larger part, was placed on the body of the sedan. The trunk lid was made unique, almost at the same angle as the rear window, thus giving the impression that this is a hatchback rather than a sedan.
The end part of the trunk lid embellished, unlike the Hyundai Elantra before restyling. The new product has a curved edge, reminiscent of a small sports spoiler, and a rear view camera is also installed here. The decorative elements retain the same emblem and chrome inscriptions, identifying the model and equipment of the car.
As for the rear bumper of the 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra, like the front, it received a more aggressive and angry style. Many sharp triangular lines have been added, L-shaped LED fog lights have appeared at the bottom, as well as reverse driving indicators. The very bottom, in the center, was embellished with a protruding diffuser, while the pre-restyling model flatly refused this design option. Changes affected the exhaust system; in the new model it was simply hidden behind the bumper, thereby improving the overall rear view.
Sedan roof- the last of the details appearance, updated Hyundai Elantra 2019-2020. As with the side section, there are no changes here; the base model has a solid roof, with a small shark fin antenna on the rear. Mid-range versions of the sedan will receive an electric sunroof, but the top-end version of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra will get a panoramic roof with a sliding front part.
Speaking in general, about the appearance of the 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra restyling, the changes are significant and even an inexperienced car enthusiast can distinguish the old version from the new one. The updated elements gain triangular styling and a meaner character that the old sedan lacked.
Unlike the exterior, the interior of the updated 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan has received fewer changes. The shape of the front panel of the new product remains the same, as does the location of the controls and decor. Only from information from the manufacturer or by looking closely can you understand exactly where the changes were. The central part of the panel is decorated with an 8" color touchscreen multimedia system instead of the 7" one that was on the Hyundai Elantra before restyling. For the basic configuration of the Hyundai Elantra 2019, a 5" color display and an additional audio system control panel were installed in place of the multimedia system.
The basis for a new multimedia The 2019 Hyundai Elantra features both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition to the main task of controlling the functions of the sedan, the system also allows you to synchronize gadgets via Bluetooth or USB cable, showing contact information, applications and other data on the main display. You can also make calls, dial SMS and voice control the Hyundai Elantra 2019 systems.
On the sides of the display there are two small air ducts, but if you compare the differences between the new ones and the Hyundai Elantra model before the update, then this is a banal design. In the new product, the air ducts have silver inserts, otherwise they are the same as before. Below the center console of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra there is an audio system panel with two selectors and a small panel with indicators for seat belts and airbags. There are no changes for these two panels, but the same cannot be said for the climate control panel.
The designers of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra have updated the panel in every sense, adding a monochrome display, as well as three massive selectors. Between the selectors and below there are buttons for controlling the sedan’s safety and comfort systems. The very bottom of the console has a small recess for storing small items and gadgets. Unlike the pre-restyling Hyundai Elantra, the new product has a charging panel from a USB port, a 12V socket, Qi wireless charging and an AUX input. The rest of the console is the same, the same inserts and design.
Central tunnel The 2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan has not changed; the designers left it exactly the same as it was previously known. Around the gearshift lever there is the same silver insert with buttons for controlling the heated front seats. Here, depending on the configuration, control buttons for security systems, comfort systems and other functions of the sedan may be located.
In the main part of the tunnel you can find two cup holders, mechanical handles and a small armrest. Essentially these are the same elements as before, which is why the new Hyundai Elantra 2019 is more of a restyled model than a new generation. On the reverse side, the armrest was diversified with two air ducts and a USB port for recharging.
The interior itself, in fact, migrated from the pre-restyling Hyundai Elantra model. acquired a small lateral support, narrower at the top and highlighted at the bottom. The lower part of the seat also received a little support and a soft landing. As for the headrests of the front seats, their shape is not large; their functions can be adjusted in height and angle of inclination. The adjustment of the front seats of the new Hyundai Elantra is the same as before restyling; the base is mechanical (4 positions for the driver and passenger), the rest of the sedan configurations are electrically adjustable (driver's in 6 directions, passenger in 4 directions).
Second row of seats The new Hyundai Elantra 2019 will not surprise you with special details. In total, the second row is designed to seat three passengers, with each having a separate headrest. The folding ratio is standard 60/40, which allows you to get a flat platform by folding the rear seats. Unfortunately, options for adjusting the second row of seats are excluded even for the top-end sedan. Compared to the previous Hyundai Elantra model, there are no actual differences. On the plus side, we can note heated front seats and memory for three settings modes, but otherwise everything is the same.
Interior trim The new Hyundai Elantra 2019 has not changed in fact; in the basic configuration they offer only fabric upholstery in black or gray. Top versions of the sedan now have leather interior trim. Leather upholstery is available in:
- grey;
- black;
- beige;
- light grey.
The last detail of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra's interior that received small but more noticeable changes is the driver's seat. When comparing the previous model and the updated sedan, what you notice most is the new steering wheel. The designers took it from the new Tucson and Santa Fe crossovers. In total, the Hyundai Elantra 2019 steering wheel is designed with three spokes, two side ones are reserved for functional buttons, the lower spoke of the steering wheel is made in the form of a plastic insert, thereby giving the steering wheel a unique style and comfort.
As a steering wheel trim Hyundai Elantra 2019 used genuine leather, with stitching to match the interior color. You can adjust the steering wheel in height and depth using a mechanical drive for the initial configurations and an electric drive for the top configuration of the Hyundai Elantra 2019. As for the instrument panel of the new sedan, there are minimal changes at all, mainly a new dial on a black background and a 4.2" monochrome display of the on-board computer; in top trim levels there is a color display.
Well, we can conclude that the interior of the new 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan has received an order of magnitude fewer noticeable changes than the exterior. Most noticeable are the air ducts and the steering wheel, as well as the instrument panel dial. Otherwise, the comfort and arrangement of parts remained the same, so you won’t notice any significant innovations in the Hyundai Elantra 2019.
Technical characteristics of Hyundai Elantra 2019-2020
The units under the hood of the updated Hyundai Elantra 2019-2020 sedan remain the same, no changes or modifications. The buyer is offered three different 4-cylinder petrol engines to choose from. The basic configurations of the sedan are equipped with a 2.0-liter MPI unit. The Eco package will have a 1.4-liter engine. Sports equipment of the Hyundai Elantra 2019 will have a 1.6-liter unit. In tandem with the engines, they offer a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches.

In fact, the dynamic characteristics of the new 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan remain the same. The suspension of the new product is independent, McPherson type installed at the front, multi-link independent at the rear. The braking system of the Hyundai Elantra is essentially the same; as standard, the car has non-ventilated disc brakes at the front and rear. More expensive trim levels received ventilated disc brakes at the front.

A reliable list of trim levels for the updated 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan has not yet been presented, as is the pricing policy. If we take into account that in many respects the updated sedan repeats the characteristics of the old model, then the same configurations will apparently be in the updated sedan. It is planned to release 6 trim levels of the 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Sport and Limited.
According to the manufacturer, the starting price of the updated 2019-2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan starts at $14,790, the maximum configuration will cost about $19,900. The first sales of the new sedan in the United States will begin this fall; the updated Hyundai Elantra will reach Russia and European countries closer to mid-2019.
