Beta testing of Call of Duty: WWII has crept up quite quietly. And now we are downloading the last gigabytes and are ready to attack on all fronts. It should be noted right away that WWII knows why a future player will launch it.

A couple of clicks and we are already looking for a match. Everything loads quite quickly. We really hope that in the release version it will also be possible to search for a match without having to visit the notorious “Headquarters”. In the first round of testing, the developers decided not to show it, so it was not possible to collect any practical impressions. From a purely theoretical point of view, “Headquarters” could shake up the series greatly, even if it is essentially a purely cosmetic change. The main thing is the match itself.

Firstly, the maps have become noticeably smaller. Of course, Sledgehammer took into account that there are no more jumps on jetpacks, but at first glance the maps seemed to be even smaller than in Modern Warfare, not to mention the insane gigantism of Ghosts. This cannot be called a negative change. On the contrary, matches with fewer participants will only become more interesting, and Deathmatch fans will not care how much meat is chopped into the stew.

Unfortunately, for the most ambitious mode called War, the modest size of the maps does not bring anything good. Here, players need to alternately perform various tasks during one match - plant and detonate a bomb, drag cargo, capture a point, and so on. I really want to participate in more or less tactical matches on this topic, but due to the fact that the maps turned out to be modest (at least those that the developers showed), even tense moments often turn into obscenity and mush. Opponents attack on one side, and sometimes you don’t even have time to reload. And the spawn point is too quickly to the action. Everything is somehow very intimate and modest. I would like more tactics and a little more scale.

Secondly, the running speed was slightly reduced, further enhancing the tactical component. Personally, it turns out even more pleasant than in Modern Warfare Remastered. Once again, the favorite feeling appears that you are not a psycho on jet propulsion, but a predator who carefully weighs his actions. This is immediately noticeable in the game. Only those who are supposed to run around here without hesitation are soldiers with shotguns.

It was not possible to properly evaluate the system of weapon modifications, but, most likely, nothing new awaits us, just the same thing, but taking into account historical realities. Nevertheless, several interesting solutions were still found. In WWII, there are now almost full-fledged classes. Unlike Infinite Warfare, they differ from each other somewhat differently. So, the rewards for several kills in a row are slightly different for each class, plus each class has its own special skills. For example, only Airborne can use a silencer, and only Expeditionary can fire incendiary ammo from a shotgun. After achieving the first “prestige”, a special type of weapon is unlocked, which can then be used with any class. There are five classes in total, which are called “divisions” here. When an impressive-looking officer enters, he will clearly explain why you should fight under his command.

The choice of weapons was very modest, with both German and American weapons available from the same pile. I would also really like to see the weapons of the USSR, which are presented in all their glory in other World War II games. It is also not entirely clear how the standard version of the STG 44 has a red dot sight by default. I would like to see even more customization elements, because they will be clearly divided into two fronts.

The upcoming round of beta testing promises an increased level cap, new weapons, another map and some game modes. But again without the “Headquarters”. Apparently, it was left as a dessert. So much the better - so far Call of Duty: WWII looks very promising despite some conventions. But there are still zombies and story mode ahead...

How did the beta of the expected shooter about World War II turn out?

A new part is coming out this November "Call of Duty", which returns to the series' roots. In place of the already boring future, developers from Sledgehammer Games, authors "Advanced Warfare", put the past in demand again, namely the bloody Second world war. Before release Activision traditionally organized a beta test for those who pre-ordered the game, where multiplayer was demonstrated.

From the very first match in "Call of Duty: WWII" The main difference between the new product and the last three or four games is noticeable. The dynamics have changed too much here. Instead of adrenaline-pumping running around in several spaces with all sorts of devices, “WWII” offers the player a minimum set of fighter: a weapon (primary and secondary), a grenade and a perk to choose from. Now you can’t rely on a successful set of abilities, and skill comes to the fore.

All the action takes place again on small maps, which, however, look completely faded. And the reduced dynamism of the action, even on small maps, makes searching for the enemy sometimes a tedious task.

Despite this, in the new regime "War" there is a feeling of lack of space. By the way, he turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air in the series, especially for those who were already tired of classic team battles and capture the flag. The essence of “War” is that one side needs to break through the defenses of the other within a given period of time in order to open a further piece of the map.

The main advantage of the regime is that it forces you to work as a team. Carrying out any tasks alone here is a disastrous business in the literal sense of the word, the enemy will quickly destroy you, and you will have to start all over again. But in team play, the effectiveness of the effort expended noticeably increases, and one side or another immediately increases the chances of winning.

The class system has also changed - there are now five divisions available in the game, each of which has unique features. By the way, they are presented in a rather unusual way: each has a separate video in which the captains demonstrate the advantages of a particular division.

As before, the new Call of Duty is not an audiovisual feast like, for example, Battlefield 1. Here, to enjoy the multiplayer, you need to be in the center of the action, because, as usual, here small cards, which feature dynamic six-on-six battles that require the participation of every player to win. But this is exactly what fans of the series need, whose ranks can be replenished due to the new successful “War” mode.

Call of Duty: WWII releases November 3rd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The second wave of beta testing will take place on consoles from September 1 to 4.
